Welcome to harp start Video course!!
I'm so delighted you're here! There are three parts to this course - the book itself, the many videos that will guide you through the process and the monthly live-on-Zoom check-ins with your teacher and your fellow students. Check the calendar for date and times.
If you haven't downloaded the newest version of the book, you'll be happy to know it is here for you.
Most pages in the book have 3 short videos:
- a play through so when you start to play the tune you have it in your ears as well as your eyes
- the heart of the program - a short "what and why you're learning", the pedagogy of the piece
- what else you can do with the printed notes. Here is where you'll develop your musicianship
I suggest you play the 1st video, then work through the printed page. Use the 2nd one to practice, to make sure all is well with your playing. Compare (a lot!) and really learn it. It is good practice to see if you can memorize it, and when you can play it smoothly, ideally memorized and with good technique, either go to the next page in the book if you need a new tune, or check the 3rd video for more ways to have fun, ways to expand beyond the printed notes - the book is designed for that!
If you have a teacher, you can ask them questions about the things you see here. Your teacher may have a different idea about how to accomplish the same thing - there are plenty of ways to learn, so you'll cover many bases that way!
This is the first quarter (approximately) the other sections will open up gradually, as I hope you will take the time to DO all of the lessons, not just watch them.
If you don't have a book yet, you can download one (look for harpstart books on the menu)
Our first meet-up is 5 pm, Monday Sept 20, 2021. I'll be ready to answer all your questions and review some of the bits live. The zoom link will come in an email to you - for those of you already used to logging in to my on-line studio, it will be the same. See you in person there!
Our next meetup is Oct. 25, 5 pm pacific. The recording for meetup 1 is below, and all question you leave at the bottom of the page will be answered!
